Materials for Model Kits Painting

The following are materials for model kits painting process: base paint, various types of paints (acrylic paint, enamel paint, spray lacquer paint, etc).

Basic Paint

This type of paint is generally used to coat plastic model kits first so the paint will have a better sticking power. Base paint is usually used to check if the putty is fine and smooth, etc..

Enamel Paint

Enamel based paint is actually a long-standing paint from a variety of brands from Tamiya, Model Master, Mr. Hobby and so forth. This paint has special enamel thinner. Enamel paint is better used for painting if using a brush. Model Master Brand paints have more accurate color variants with reference to the FS code color reference. (Most appropriate for some aircraft model kits color scheme). But for those not too concerned with color accuracy then that’s not much good. Tamiya Brand color more generally, the excess is easily obtained.

Acrylic Paint

This paint type generally contains water diluent, generally using diluent / acrylic paint thinner (to maintain accuracy, etc.). But you can also use alcohol, or methanol. The advantage of this acrylic paint is less toxic (compared to an enamel paint or lacquer paint). The disadvantage of acrylic paint is difficult to use a brush because it is lumpy and does not spread. But for touching up and detailing the button or the small details, acrylic paint is more solid in coloring.

Spray Lacquer Paint

Spray Lacquer Paint is very easy to use, especially for clear coating and also for certain colors. Generally use the diluent material / thinner types of lacquer. Spray Lacquer Paint has clear color, flats, etc. and also silver. Most common brand is Tamiya and Mr. Hobby.

Paint for Metal (Natural Metal Paint)

This paint is specifically for painting aircraft model kits or other models that have original metal color (aluminum, steel, etc.). Paint for metal-based lacquer is very good because the result metal color is more accurate and also fast drying (because lacquer), so facilitate the next step.

Acrylic Tube

Acrylic tube paint was commonly used for the actual usefulness of other art (canvas, glass, etc.). These paints are mainly used for accent buttons, and other small accents. Acrylic tube paint is very difficult to use when using a brush. Because of its aggregation, but the color is solid and opaque not transparent, this Acrylic paint is suitable for small details of model kits.
